4 Ugly Daughters
Real musicians need no folderol
Worn-out slides and shirts. The four guys do their own thing and they decline any kind of glamour. With untamed energy, lyrics like diaries and numerous ballads the 4 Ugly daughters let us have a deep look inside their souls. Singer Claas-P. Jambor has a four-octave vocal range. Guitarist Dennis Hormes already played with T. M. Stevens at the age of 16 and has been a studio musician for James Brown, Joe Cocker and Cindy Lauper.
Together wit bass player Markus Hoppe and drummer Andy Latzko the daughters show us what pure rock sound like.
Interview
Are you still available?
Dennis: Well, we’re still up for almost every crap but since we’ve grown a little older we have the feeling that we have become choosier.
Do you have a ritual before your performances?
Andy: We always carry a little sheep with us. Right before a concert we paint and clip it until it looks like Mr. Spock. Then we slaughter and eat it. I always have Tabasco with it.
What was the most embarrassing experience in your career?
Claas: Well, I once played in San Jose without my underwear - in very tight pants- unfortunately the air-conditioning was down and - well, I poured out some water over my chair and “accidentally” sat down to hide the shame.
What was the funniest thing?
Claas: I wouldn’t even know where to start. Actually putting Andy and Dennis together backstage eating popcorn and listening to the bullshit they’re talking already makes a great show.
Since when have you been together as a band?
Markus: The daughters were founded in late December 2006 just around Christmas time. We had already been playing together in different constellations until we wanted to do our thing. So we rented a studio and recorded our first album quite fast – big thanks to Stefan Walter from the Baltic Sound Studio who endured us – we’re talking four musicians and a carton of Luckys a night.
How did you get together?
Claas: Well, Dennis, Andy and Markus used to play in a band called “Hutch” and the project was about to die. I was doing a lot of solo stuff at that time and I was looking for a band. One night, big with fate, it was wintertime and very cold, Markus and I met in a sleazy bar in Gießen and buttered up each other. I told him they were my favourite band and he told me I was their favourite frontman – so we just gave it a try.
